- Chrome is now supported in SharePoint 2007 too!!
- we have now two features now. One is responsible for turning Office integration On for Firefox & Chrome on per web application basis. Second feature once activated will ensure that a user has the proper plugin installed if needed. It is to be activated at site collection level
- Project name changed since we support now more than just Firefox

Project Description

npOpenDocuments (formerly WSSFirefox) implements SharePoint & Office integration for non-IE browsers. Now Firefox & Google Chrome browsers can open MS Office documents directly, without saving them into temporary folder first. Check-in, Check-out & co are also supported.

Today combinations of SharePoint (2007, 2010) and Office (from XP to 2010) are supported. For Office XP you will have less features available obviously, but still "Open in Office App" & "Edit in Office App" work there. Also for SharePoint 2010 you will have to install an .xpi manually at this moment.

Project is being built and maintained by Ilya Semenov & Alexander Ivanov from Renaissance IT team http://renaissance-it.ru and by Adam Rimon.

Server Installation

Download the latest package and run something like this (Deploy.bat):

stsadm -o addsolution -filename RENIT.npOpenDocuments.wsp
stsadm -o deploysolution -name RENIT.npOpenDocuments.wsp -immediate
stsadm -o execadmsvcjobs

Go to "Manage Web Applications Features" and activate the "Office Integration support for non-IE browsers" first. Please ensure that correct web application is selected in drop down.

If you have only Office 2010 installed that is it - you are done! If you have Office 2002, 2003 or 2007 then proceed to the next step:

Go to "Site Collection Features" for your main site and activate "Office Integration support for non-IE browsers Installer" feature there.

Now portal will start asking Firefox & Chrome users to install an extension.

Office 2010 & SharePoint 2010

Our plugin can now be used instead of NPApi plugin shipped with Office 2010 and vise versa.

That means that:
1) if you have Office 2010 installed & SharePoint 2007 with our feature activated, there is no need to install anything to a client machine. It will reuse a plugin shipped by MS in Office 2010.
2) if you have SharePoint 2010 and Office 2002 -> 2007, you will need to install our .xpi plugin manually. So here it is published below specially for these needs.
3) If you have SharePoint 2007 with our feature and Office 2002 -> 2007, then as usual users will be prompted to install the .xpi package.

So, to summarize:
a) If you have SharePoint 2007 - install the wsp & then SharePoint will ask users to install the .xpi if they have Office < 2010
b) If you have SharePoint 2010 & Office <= 2007 - just give your users the .xpi and ask them to install it manually

Fixed it at last.
It should work on all the new versions of Firefox (including FF8.0a2).
